One of the Havre de Grace Green Team’s primary passions is continuing  education in the responsible use of our natural resources, both locally and abroad. The Green Team will always seek to provide the how, what, why and where to find facts and information on green initiatives in our fair city of Havre de Grace, Harford County, Maryland, USA.

Our environment is complex and changing topic that affects us all.  Watching quality documentaries and reading are one avenue to better understanding our beautiful but threatened home.  Thanks BGE for supporting our film and book series.  Save the date, 2/15/23 at 7 pm for our “Books and Bites” discussion of Elizabeth Kolbert’s book, The Sixth Extinction: An Unnatural History, at Coakley’s Pub in Historic Havre de Grace

Parade Planning!  Independence Parade Sunday July 4th!

We need you to make paper pollinators for the Independence Day Parade!

Want a fun activity and help prepare paper pollinators for the 4th of July Parade? The Havre de Grace Green Team invites you to construct some birds, butterflies, hummingbirds, bats, and bees for decorating an e-car masquerading as a giant bee!   The paper pollinators will “fly,” tethered to the e-car with light, springy wire.  We need lots and lots of them!

Our parade entry is sponsored by the Havre de Grace Green Team, the Havre de Grace Maritime Museum and Harford County Climate Action. Previously we have won first prize in the non-profit, walking group category.  We want to win again this year!

Please join us by making paper pollinators and walking in the parade, too.

Here are instructions in PDF for making birds, bees, hummingbirds and bats for the parade.  Remember they should be light and about 8 inches in size.  Have your own ideas for making these paper pollinators especially with reused materials?  Go for it!

Bats

Remember while we always think bees when talking about pollinators there are many other creatures that provide pollination so we humans have good food to eat.  Here are some:  bees, moths, flies, bats, butterflies, birds, beetles, wasps, birds, and even some small mammals like flying foxes!

Please just send the Green Team a note at hdggreenteam@gmail.com so we can tell you where and when to drop off your paper pollinators and the parade information if you plan to march Sunday afternoon, July 4.

Remember Havre de Grace is a Bee City!  You can help bring back the pollinators!  Many thanks to you!

Thanks to Lynn Galloro for the helpful instructions.
